a somewhat aggressive white ipa, a style ive seen trickle back into play a little bit of late, and im here for it, i was a fan when it dropped, in all its forms more or less, and ive missed the good ones. this one is decent, really bitter, bitter enough to have some burn be the main takeaway, but dial that back and all the elements are here, and i think its pretty well made, its just intense to a point that limits drinkability, odd at this low abv, but here we are anyway. brassy looking, clear for a wheat based beer, and high white headed from the tap, all frothed up and airy, looks nice. the nose is more balanced than the flavor, i get some earthy grain, lightly toasted, maybe a tad richer than many, not totally basic, which is fine, good with the belgian yeast which is not at all over developed and has some neat citrusy character to it, as well as a hint of white wine. the hops start with grapefruit and lemon but rather quickly go green and bitter, neat for a flash where its bitter and spicy with the yeast, a white pepper wrinkle there, but its short lived and then its all hops. the flavor retains most of that but the late bitterness is too much. i like the fermentation profile more than i expected to, its smartly done, maybe run a little cooler, constrained in a way thats making me want it more, lemony in the middle, a little bit hearty at its core from the grain, if they could dial back the intense bitterness this would be darn good. its well carbonated and does have the lift i want with belgian yeast. a couple of tweaks away, but promising anyway, and in a style that id love to see have a full resurgence...
