I poured this into a mug. The appearance was a nice looking black color with a one finger white foamy head that quickly dissipated leaving a messy film of lacing sticking initially and then sliding into the beer. The smell had a nice roasty cocoa bean sliding into subtle roasty coffee beans and quickly displacing the cocoa bean to allow some sweet vanilla to balance. Or at least that’s what I got, was that vanilla intentional? Hmmm...not sure. The taste was moderately sweet with the roast to come back and balance nicely. Light bitterness slides in for a slight balance. Slight roasty cocoa aftertaste. Somewhat a wet sweet cocoa finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fine sessionability about it. Carbonation seems fairly under for the style, but still not too much of a hit as there’s a nice smooth to creamy sweet feel on my tongue. Overall, American or English Porter, maybe closer to an English but still really nice no matter what styled Porter it is.
