This was poured into a pokal. The appearance was a modest transparent to semi-cloudy yellow color with a self-paced carbonation rising nicely. Head quickly dissipates. Lacing slides quickly into the beer. The smell starts off with a sour/bitter blood orange rind. Sour mashed wheat is there underneath riding in for the balance. Slight salt ever so subtle. Lemon slides in as it warms. The taste was there. Starts sour like a gose should in the flavor, takes in the blood orange bitterness, subtle sweet pulp - somewhat there. Salty to sour finish. No aftertaste. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice crisp sweet to sour sessionable feel, definitely crushable! Overall, damn nice gose, this company does the lower ABV-ed beers really well!

Hogback Mountain Brewing "Pink Boots Gose with Blood Oranges"
$6.04 @ Beverage Warehouse, Winooski, VT

Appearance: Very hazy golden body beneath a short head of bright white. The head drops readily and leaves only minor lacing behind (which is usual for the style when it doesn't have a solid wheat component to it).

Aroma: Refined, not brash. Smells of sweetish malt, citrusy hops and a slightly sour component with mild saltiness and brine backing it up.

Flavor: The flavor follows the aroma with a mild bit of spice added, probably coriander. It's sweetish and floral, but balanced, and citrusy as well in many ways. It's balanced and easily accessible; although I unfortunately don't think the Blood Orange came through as clearly as it could have.

Mouthfeel: Light-medium in body with a soft, seemingly natural, fine bubbled and moderate carbonation that gives a little zest to the tongue at first and then softens as it warms.

Overall: Pleasant and balanced but without excitement.

L- Pours a hazy yellow common to a lot of the Berliner's that I've scene. The head rises to about a finger and a half before quickly subsiding to a thin film. No lacing is present.
S-The nose is blood orange and stronger than I would have imagined.
T- Up front you get that initial tartness without being outright sour. The blood orange shows up in mid palate before the beer finishes with a soft salinity. The blood orange shows up stronger in the nose than in the flavor.
F-Carbonation is on the softer side. The overall mouthfeel is medium.
O- Not overly complex, but fairly well executed in it's application of fruit to the base Gose. The tartness and salinity are both clearly present without being overidden by the blood orange. A nice balance between all the elements.
