From the farm fields of Ypres, Belgium, our brewmaster took a traditionally boring, wit beer and infused it with orange and grapefruit peel, coriander and cardamom. Woah! Stop the craziness!

Brewmaster Notes: Wheat based beer. Grains of paradise, grapefruit rind and coriander. Light, refreshing and citrusy twist on the traditional Belgian wit.

Style: Belgian-style White Ale Brewed with Grapefruit Peel and Spices
Availability: Seasonal
Food Pairings: Chicken, Tikka Masala, Seafood, Curry, Mussels
Malt: 2 Row, Pilsner, Unmalted Wheat, Rice Hulls
Hops: Mt. Hood

Light golden yellow body, mildly cloudy; coarse, lively carbonation; fair head, thin and white yet lasting; thick, sticky sheets of foam paint the glass. Nice aroma; some fruity esters noted; cloves. Huge suggestion of classic German hefeweizen; yeasty; banana and cloves; light malt sweetness; very, very mild phenols. Medium-heavy body; light overall sweetness; very light roughness on the palate; semi-dry mouthfeel.

The bottle label notes the brewer used a combination of coriander and cardamon along with grapefruit peel in the production of this beer. I have no idea what yeast strain was used, but between the adjuncts and (perhaps) the yeast strain, this has classic hefeweizen taste written all over it. However the brewers did this, they came up with a very tasty wheat-based beer. Sublimely tasty for the warm summer days.

Pouring temperature: 43 °F; bottling info: unknown

O: good take on a Belgian wit bier but swapping out orange for grapefruit
