its rare than a random dark lager is my first order on a beer menu like they had in here, and its rare that the style gets me this stoked at all, but somehow stars aligned and i am thankful they did, what a wonderful, underappreciated, highly drinkable, almost universal dark lager, refined masterfully, gorgeous for winter sessioning, was pumped on this no frills beauty. chestnut to indian brown in color, a clear low glow in the right light, a frothy inch of head on it, airy and patient, looks well polished. the aroma on this is interesting, its not quite traditional czech, not as yeast forward as many of these, but still old worldy to me, on the grain side anyway, less sweet than most, some roast, some cocoa, raisin, a lot of fall and winter notes to it, not spicy or spiced or anything, but with some real neat nuance to the malt, molasses, fig, maple, char, minerals too, and real cohesive, clean, and inviting. some cool fruitiness in the flavor here but still dark, not middle, malt driven, light roast, a coffee suggestion, drier than it smells, just a subtle bready component to the ferment but really clean and fast finishing for being as flavorful as it is, hearty but never heavy, bubbly but patient too, love the flow and texture of this almost as much as the flavor, hints of cherrywood, cola, and dark soil to finish. just fantastic, unexpectedly great!
