Good but not great in line with the first comment. Maybe I’ve just had too many of this type but it’s not as smooth or tasty as several other beers I’ve had.

bourbon barrel aged imperial stout, good not great, actually one of the least remarkable of the roughly dozen beers we drank from these guys while we were in town. this is decent, but it lacks the complexity and richness i was expecting, the barrel seems to dominate the base beer a little bit, im not sure about the whiskey quality previously house in the barrel, something is a little odd about it to me, there is some oxidation too, a dry ashy almost burnt element, and while it is indeed flavorful, its also slightly underwhelming. a little lesser viscosity and indeed body than anticipated, aroma of dry cocoa, sweet molasses, and with hints of milk chocolate, caramel and toffee, french toast, and raisin, something slightly stale in here, some heat from the whiskey, some wood, char, black tea bitterness. the flavor is similarly layered but not amazingly cohesive to me, its sugary, but its also bitter, its rich in places but faded and astringent in others, and in a style space where a lot of breweries are playing, this didnt really impress. i dont mind the alcohol presence, it just kind of runs over some of the subtlety. more carbonation than a lot of these have, raisin and chocolate on the swallow, some oak tannins, wintery vibes and a fine night cap, but not among their best in our fairly extensive experience with their brews while we were there in green bay...
