Flirp is back and he means business! Heavily oated and wheated, and massively dry hopped with BRU-1, Amarillo, Citra and Simcoe. Notes of tropical fruit pie, fresh squeezed pineapple juice and honeydew sorbet are Super Flirp's weapons of choice.

12 oz. pour on draught at the brewery. It pours an opaque, soft pastel yellow color with a modest milk-white colored head and thin sheen of lacing. The nose is malty with notes of lemon, grapeefuit, orange, pineapple, onion, and floral hops. Its taste opens with tart lemon and grapefruit. As it warms, there is increasing pineapple from the Bru-1 hops and red berry from the Simcoe. Beneath the fruit is a strong base of dry wheat cracker and subtle oat sweetness. The mouth feel is luxuriously thick and creamy with appropriate carbonation and the 8% ABV gives it good substance without being overly boozy. Overall, Super Flip is flavorful and enjoyable.

I gotta cop to it - I may beCANming an old man! I turned double nickels back in late-February & took a demanding Post Office job in late-May. The CANbination has been a double-edged sword in that I have shed a LOT of weight & become MUCH more muscular, but at the end of each shift, I am beaten into a plowshare! As such, I find myself able to have one beer a night & then sack out. Thank goodness for The CANQuest (tm), which offers up a new nightly CAN for drinking, reviewing & rating!

From the CAN: "Super Flirp India Pale Ale"; "Drink Local".

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. I was rewarded with just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head that was not up to the humidity of the day & simply wilted into wisps. 8=( Color was a slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose smelled like pineapple upside-down cake with a caramel-pineapple quality as well as naughty little Simcoe the kitten doing her catty business in the corner. 8=O Mouthfeel was medium, a tad thin for the style, but in the brewery's defense, they did NOT label it as an AIIPA/ADIPA. Hmm. The taste was heavy on the pineapple, appropriate in terms of the use of caramel malt (perceptible without being dominating), slightly catty with a bready-biscuitiness that inCANporated a light melon quality. It was like drinking a liquefied parfait with layer upon layer upon layer, each slowly peeling back to reveal itself. Hmm. I think that I watched a striptease act (or two ;=) ) with the same slow revelatory quality. CANother way to think of this beer is as an onion, with layer after layer slowly peeling away to reveal a new flavor. I have to cop to being rather impressed by their masterful use of the hops which drove this flirpy beer. I CANnot tell you for sure about the style, but I CAN tell you that the ABV beCAN to catch up to me! It is time for a lay-down! Finish was semi-dry with a lingering fruitiness. Yum! YMMV.

About a finger’s worth of frothy white foam, slightly uneven surface and for what’s there the retention is good, solid lacing. Completely opaque dark yellow color, could pass for orange juice. It feels thick in the nostrils, mostly dank until the peach, nectarine, pineapple, mango fruit spread out, mild bit of tar, pine sap and citrus juice, mainly fruit and marijuana resin. Equally full-bodied in the mouth, heavy if soft. The relative lack of carbonation doesn’t help. Here the sheer density of the melon, peach, apricot fruit and citrus push the dankness into the background. Not getting any tart tropicality. For supplementary flavors, more bready than anything, pine, maybe some ginger spice. Appreciate the intensity of the flavors but kind of struggled to get through one 16 oz. can (remember the days of 12 oz. cans? much more apropos for beers like this). (Canned 5/27/20)
