On-draught at Alpin Bistro in Tirana in February 2016. Amber/red beer. Open-fermented. Spends 21 days in fermentation.
Regrettably brief notes below:
APPEARANCE: Head is ~5-6 cm wide, and of off-white colour. Leaves no lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes. Retention is nice - ~5 minutes. Nicely creamy and frothy. Soft-looking.
Body is a clear copper-amber of average vibrance. No yeast is visible; it's a clean looking beer.
Appears well-carbonated.
AROMA: Munich malt sweetness. CaraMunich malts. Rich malty sugars.
Aromatic intensity is average, suggesting a clean drinking brew.
TASTE: Red malts, Munich malt sweetness, cleanly attenuating lager yeast. No real hop profile here.
Balanced and enjoyable, with fair depth of flavour. Flavour profile is cohesive and the beer is well built. Nice duration of flavour to boot.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, light to medium-bodied, well-carbonated, somewhat refreshing. Complements the taste nicely.
OVERALL: It's quite drinkable and enjoyable. While not as intricate or subtle in execution as it could be, it's easily the best beer I tried when in Albania. Well worth seeking out when in the beer-deprived country, and a nice change of pace from the usual pale lager schlock. But it's not a serious competitor in the international arena.
Low B- (3.30) / WORTHY
