i think this series changes regularly with what hop and malt it uses, when we were there is was maris otter and nelson, a curious combination we dont often see, this is the first i have seen these two together actually, and the beer is great, a huge ipa in this instance, more maris in the glass here than i am used to in its usual manifestations like esb and english pale ale, biscuity and a little sweet, richly earthy without being as powerfully flavorful and intense as the heavier crystal types, and without english yeast in this beer, the maris otter malt takes on a new personality to me here, fresher and more versatile somehow, really appealing. the nelson isnt as overly dry hopped as it can sometimes be when it tastes like sherbet. here is has faint white grape and ripe peach notes, grassy summery energy, and a neat canned tropical fruit cocktail vibe, nice against the maris otter malt, and also a lot more of it overall than i am used to, even though its used a little differently. the type of beer in the series must change too from pairing to pairing, as this was listed as a triple ipa when we were in despite the listing and noted abv here. i like these two insanely unique ingredients together, and i like the higher proportions of them in this beer, i learned a lot from this one, plus its absolutely delicious!
