Apogee is a Stout. It’s dark with Chocolate, Black and Roasted Barley malt, a thick pure-white head, roasty-dry and session-able. Comfort beer.

Canned in a big old crafty can
pours a jet black body with decent enough tan head
aroma is roast and dark malts
flavour is tar soap, grape soda

Hipster can styling vs pretty trad beer style; which side will come out top in the end result?...
First off, in case it happens to others. When I popped the can a few drops spilled. This is the first ever can where there is (literally) beer sitting on top of the can before pouring; not foam but liquid. Seems the can might be a touch over-filled.
L- Black, though close to a halogen bulb it's ultra-dark ruby with a slight haze. Pours with 3mm fine-bubble pale tan head.
S- Trad smell of black beers, roasty/toasty, plus coffee notes.
T- Follows the Smell^, together with some light wafts of smoke. Zero out of place to note. All in quite a gutsy authentic taste.
F- The flavour is pungent enough it draws attention to what in comparison is a *relatively* light ABV%. But note I'm enjoying this a lot, just would be interested to try a say 7.5% iteration of it!
O- I had been concerned 'the hipsters' might have had their contemporary way' with this stout, but no fear they haven't turned it into a vulgar modern hop-fest. It's veeery drinkable, and black beers are not my go-to style. ... hehe it certainly underlines how poor household-name stouts are.
One negative, it's damned expensive! Bought from Wholefoods London W8 at £4.99/440ml can.
