Great Uncle Giggles is a ghost that haunts the taproom. We like him so much we named a beer after him!

This pale ale is citrussy, crisp and smooth. It used to be made with hop oils but the brew team got a shiny new Hop Egg recently, allowing them to introduce hops into our beer in a way that results in a cleaner, fresher taste that lasts longer on the shelf.

So yeah, the taproom might be haunted, but it’s haunted by the ghost of a really delicious beer.

A- Uncle Giggles pours out of the can a light, chill hazed golden yellow color, with a super white head that looks like, well, cheap bubble bath. The retention of said head is somewhat good, with the soapy protein layer dissipating at medium speed and eventually settles down to a subdued layer over top the brew. There seems to be a solid amount of carbonation rising to the top and the lacing appears to be sticky and sweet, with many small patches of bubble clinging to the inside of the glass.

S- There is an above average aroma of bittering hop cones and oil (yes I am trying Version 1.0), and the bitterness is somewhat cloying and in your face, which isn't a bad thing either. Balancing caramel sweet malts keep everything in check, and there are underlying notes of orange and tangerine zest....perhaps some grapefruit flesh mixed in there as well.

T- Fresh and a nice blend of malt sweetness staging a war against bittering hop cones and oils, providing a solid balance between the two. There are underlying citrus rind tangs, with orange and grapefruit being most of note, some slight caramel sweetness, dry biscuit and a clean finish...even some yeast mixed in to the concoction that lingers slightly.

M/O- The mouthfeel is definitely lighter medium, yet with a nice roundness about it. The carbonation, as it appeared, is plentiful and reasonably aggressive, which I think is a good characteristic for this one, as it is flavorful enough to handle it, yet stays clean enough on the palate to enjoy the next sip in quick order. I think I'd enjoy this again, and look forward to trying the current version, which doesn't use the hop oils any longer.
