A: The beer is essentially jet black in color. It poured with a short tan colored head that quickly settled down, leaving a collar around the edge and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of roasted malts are present in the nose along with hints of lavender.
T: The taste has herb-like flavors of lavender and thyme along with notes of dark and roasted malts, the latter of which become stronger as the beer warms up. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The hops lend some crispness to the mouthfeel.
O: The use of East Kent Golding hops in this beer creates an interesting and unique porter. I particularly liked the contrast between the dark, roasted malts and the lavender in the taste.

A dark black color on the pour with a frothy off-white head. Roasted malts on the nose. The drinking hits with chocolate malts upfront but it's rather light body is very apparent. Very drinkable with a very smooth flow and finish. Subtle notes of cocoa, coffee, and caramel. Again, a very light mouthfeel that drinks dry and sways a bit to much towards watery.
Overall, just not that good. The light watery feel really drowns out the flavors to much for me. I can find a substantially better 5% porter just down the road.

On tap at BeerShop, NYC.
Pours a black color with hints of dark mahogany. Moderate tan head retains well, yields a creamy film and lacing.
Aromas of chocolate, both milk and dark, nutty malts, and a hint of coffee.
Toasty and creamy nutty malt taste that has a moderate sweetness. Flavors of dark chocolate, light roast and a hint of acidity from the black malt. Moderate hops spice provides earthy notes, citrusy brightness and mild bitterness.
Medium bodied, very smooth and creamy with a gentle carbonation. Hint of tartness in the finish along with a mild roast and hops bitterness.
Delightful and sessionable porter that totally hits the mark. I love its mellow flavors and well crafted balance.

Pours a dark brown with a quarter inch tan head that dissipated fairly quickly and left little lacing. Smells and tastes of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts and caramel. Medium bodied for the style, moderate carbonation, smooth and creamy mouth feel.

On-draught at the brewpub for $7 a pint.
Porter. 5% ABV.
Like Interboro's Approved Stout, this is a classic timeless expression of the style, nailing traditional conventions and delivering exactly what one would expect. Dark malts, chocolate malts, roast, even some oatmeal cookie. Balanced and pleasant, with no faults or off-flavours. Decent depth of flavour.
True to style, its texture is smooth, wet, and medium-bodied. A bit chewy, with moderate thickness. Well-carbonated.
Drinkable and enjoyable fare, though the very best beers in the style offer more complexity and depth of flavour. This won't astound those after a fresh take on the style, but traditionalists will find it right on the money for the style - even if it lacks the depth and expressiveness to really dazzle.
