12oz draught pour @ the brewery for $7 USD.
5% ABV. Coffee porter.
Drinks like regular City Wide with a mild coffee presence bringing downplayed flavours of earthy cold brew and a blip of roast. More creamy cold brew than bitter espresso, meshing well with the classic chocolate malt and dark malts sweetness of the classic American porter build but not offering vivid, expressive, or unique coffee flavour.
Interboro plays it safe with this basic no-frills coffee porter, delivering a by the numbers true to form expression of the style. It's refreshing in an era when every brewery seems obsessed with adjunct-laden overcomplicated stouts and porters that lose sight of the style's origins and traditions, but one can't help but feel Interboro could venture far farther out on this limb before there'd be any chance of it snapping.
Close to the cuff safe work from this new-to-the-club New York brewery. It'll please traditionalist fans of the coffee porter style, but in a market in which Founders Breakfast Stout can be had for less (not to mention Two Roads Espressway, Bells Java, and offerings from Troegs), you've got to bring more to the table to run with the big dawgs.
Still, if this is what Interboro putting out less than a year into opening, there's wide open blacktop ahead.
