Pours close to black with big, foamy, loose 2.5" mocha head, excellent retention and even better lacing. Nose has big notes of fresh ground coffee and dark chocolate; dark fruit and earthy hop undertones. Really a very inviting aroma here. Taste is dark, bitter baking chocolate, earthy hops, tobacco, black licorice, cocoa powder. Judging from previous reviews, this may have been reformulated, as there is little to no sweetness. Mouthfeel is very crisp and refreshing. Overall, this was very enjoyable, sessionable, and worth seeking out.

Look: Hazy, very dark brown. Two fingers of thick khaki head with very long retention.

Smell: Mild, sweet, slightly fruity.

Taste: Slightly coffee-toasted sweetness with a strong bitter hop flavor overlaid. Rapid, clean finish.

Mouthfeel: Average body, high carbonation.

Overall: A bit too bitter for how thin it is.

a: dark dark brown, almost black color. quite murky with a little silky shine. 1.5 finger solid dark tan head

s: strong notes of roasted malt and a touch of brown sugar. milk chocolate and that lager spice. burnt leaves and a bit of charred wood. not super complex and all the aromas hit quick. a touch more malt than i'd expect for the style

t: roasted malts, cola, and chocolate. a crisp lager spice alongside some pepper. some dark caramel and charred wood. huge notes of dark bread as a backbone

m: medium mouthfeel with high carbonation. a touch stronger mouthfeel than i'd want from the style

o: good beer, but just a touch too sweet for the style, IMO. nice roast and it does have that Dark Lager crispness. Mouthfeel is a touch too heavy as well, but given all that it is still easy to drink

A: The beer is nearly jet black in color - only faint traces of dark brown are visible near the bottom of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a short light beige head that left a narrow collar around the edge and lacing covering the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of dark malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is dominated by flavors of dark malts. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There are notes of dryness in the finish.
O: The smell and taste of this beer is all about the dark malts. While it is very malty, it is rather easy to drink because it isn't that heavy on the palate.
