Poured on tap at the brewery into a pint glass. The beer is a deep, dark copper-red with a thin ring of head. The nose is a blend of caramel and malt. On first drink, the malt red flavors are present, and that is quickly followed by a burst of hops. The beer is extremely smooth despite the levels of hops, and has a nice hoppiness to the aftertaste, as well. Very drinkable and enjoyable beer. It shows why this brew is their best-seller.

On tap at Lengthwise Brewing
A: Pours deep reddish copper with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces well.
S: Toasty bready malt, earthy, and some fruity notes.
T: Grapefruit pith and pine, lemon, earthy and fruity notes, plumb and peach, toasty bready malt, and toffee sweetness.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.
O: Quite a different taste from the smell. Drinkable, but really nothing super special.

This beer was a cloudy medium amber, tan head retained well, lacing ringed the glass. Sharp hoppy aroma and taste is due to three kinds of hops being used. It was not overpowering by any means but reminds one of a IPA / Red ale. Full bodied and creamy, nice and drinkable, good beer I do say. This brewery should be heard from in the future.

Sample at the brewpub: Clear brownish-red color with a medium off-white head and thin spotty lacing. The aroma is equal parts hops and malt. Medium, creamy body with taste that belies what the aim is - a malty Amber with a hops kick. Even so the hops is not nearly as strong as suggested. The finish is sweet, with some lingering hops. This is apparently Lenghtwises flagship beer and it is pretty good, although some more hops would be welcome.

Beautiful deep brick reddish amber body hosts a two finger tan fluff of a head that turns rocky as it fades and leaves cliffs of lace as it does. Nose is initially very mineral based with tones of wet stone, raw malt extract and hops that have a very fresh cut grassy feel. The minerals continue on with the first sip with a extremely rustic malt character. This is all while the hops add a piney feel for a complete forest like mouthfeel. Even a slight bit of sweetness would have really balanced out this beer. Definitely for those who like their red ales on the dryer side. Drinkability is good regardless.

From sample glass at the brewery.
Not much aroma aside from a subtle malty sweetness. Poured reddish-amber with very slight cloudiness, but pretty good good clarity overall. Some off-white head in sample glass.
Slightly thin flavor. Beer seems to have been served on nitrogen, so this may have muted the flavor. Decent level of hop bitterness and some spicy hop flavor. A fair amount of medium-dark crystal maltiness. Not especially complex. Hops and malts dominated flavor but lacked the depth I'd expect from a CA Amber ale.
Some astringency in finish, but mouthfeel pretty good overall.

look: 2.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3 | overall: 3
Appearance: Consumed at the brewpub. $3.50 for a pint. Color is a brownish red but when backlit the beer is deep copper to red color. The head was very thin because the bartender poured off the head. When swirled the beer produces a thin head that dies quickly. No head retention and no lacing.
Smell: Light roasty malts with a dry hoppy scent.
Taste: Fruity to open with some potent hop bitterness that fades fast into a sweet fruity malt aftertaste. The beer is tart and slightly roasty. The malt is biscuity and sandy.
Mouthfeel: Sticky but smooth, light to medium bodied, highly carbonated and bordering on being over-carbonated.
Drinkability: A decent hoppy beer but certainly not the best. Fruitiness is nice and clean but it's lacking in complexity and all around flavor.
