L: dark amber with decent white head.
S: smells like the base beer with hops and a little fruit, but add in oak and some malt at the end.
T: the base beer is a west coast hop bomb, this has more oak and bourbon and a bunch of malt flavor.
F: decent feel, but lighter than the base beer, was not expecting that.
O: good combo of west coast hop bomb plus malt, oak and bourbon.

Finally, a barrel aged IPA with a nice taste of the barrel and nice IPA characteristics as well. I hope they can reproduce this again and again. If you get a chance, enjoy this barrel aged offering.

Bottled 3/26/15. Nice amber color. The smell is mild hoppiness and a good amount of bourbon. Even though 4 months old, the taste is still fairly hoppy with a velvety bourbon flavor. Very smooth body. I think the fact that I let this sit a bit, did it some good. Reminds me a lot of Doom by Founders. Good beer.

22 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Bottled on date 4/23/15
Appearance: extremely murky orange-hued brown with a thin off white head, not much head retention. Honestly looks pretty questionable, but appearance really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
Smell: I'm always intrigued to see how bourbon barrel aged IPAs work out in this department - either the barrel or the hops usually completely overpowers the other. Not so here. Strong aromas of both bourbon and citrusy, piney hops mingle to create a very unique smell. It fluctuates between the barrel being prominent and then the hops and then the barrel again, but neither one really takes over. Excellent.
Taste: Keeps the same intriguing barrel-hop balance as the aroma. Sweet caramel malt, bourbon, vanilla, oak, and a strong bite of citrus. The barrel probably is a bit more dominant here than in the nose, but still keeps a very nice balance. There's just a touch of alcohol heat on the finish along with some battering hops.
Mouthfeel: medium body, low-medium carbonation. Quite smooth. Definitely has the body of a DIPA.
Overall: excellent. In theory barrel aging a DIPAS seems like a terrible idea since you're killing the freshness of the hops, but this works brilliantly. Great interplay between the barrel and the hops.

Tasted on tap at brewery. Great nose with coconut and Bourbon. Huge Bourbon flavor, lots of sweetness. IPA character doesn't come through. More like a barley wine, but that's ok with me.
