Pours deepest red to hazy dark brown from a bottle into a pint glass, thick light brown creamy, lingering head 2 fingers initially, and moderate lacing on the glass. Looks like a pint of coca cola.
Nose is sweet caramel, molasses, and smoky malts right off the bat. The aroma is subtle but one can pick up slight milk chocolate notes towards the back of the nose along with hints of dried, candied fruit.
Taking a sip one is instantly aware of roast coffee beans, treacle, and charred malts, moving through subtle black forest fruits, and cola, and then roast grain on the finish with slight bitterness. There's a significant smokiness throughout the flavour profile - which reminds me of a mellow rauchbier - nicely complementing the malts, but still leaving room for the other flavours.
As for the feel, this brown ale is medium bodied with light carbonation; it feels creamy, and smooth.
Overall a nice brown ale if you're a fan of smoked beer, well balanced and easy drinking. Would turn to again if it was on tap, but wouldn't go out of my way to find.
