There's a good selection of Albanian beers, and no dominant factory brewer, allowing for regional products. Albanian beers tend to be light with around 4.1-4.7% abv. Birra Elbar is one of the best, in my opinion. It is a 4.1% lager with a subtle malty taste and a bit of honey. Very refreshing. I also like their slogan: "The beer for true friends."

Tirana 4/10 2024. 33 cl can from Supermarket Cangolli, Rruga Reshit Petrela, Tirana. Red and off-white can in classic design with a couple of golden medals.
Pours clear clear pale yellow with a mid-sized white head. Stable. Settles as paper-thin layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is moderately intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with a chemical scent. Sweet pale malts, cardboard, bread and glue.
Light carbonation. Thin, oily soft flat texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a rather strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a rough unpleasant undertone. Lingers for a bit. Finish is malty sweet.
Way too sweet.

Beer drunk in southern Albania, in Gjirokastër.
Clear color brew.
Mild tasted beer but nothing too special.
Seems to be the usual taste of Albanian beers.

330ml can in Tirana (100 lek):
Very clear amber with a 1cm bubbly white head that's foamy on top before settling with a thin soapy lacing about 30 seconds later. Earthy notes kick off the nose with some corn & basic adjuncts, inoffensive but basic with faint grassy hops nearer the end. More of the same with the taste, lots of corn & malts with an earthy hop backing & some grain. It's strongly carbonated, slightly gassy & an effervescent finish that has a subtle earthy bitterness to it as well.
