Poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a fairly thick dark brown color close to black with a two finger's worth of tan foamy head. Slight messy lace.
The aroma started off more of a dark chocolate maltiness with big roasty notes and a nice backing of coffee beans. Milk chocolate took some time but did come out. Dark fruits and brown sugar round out the end.
The flavor yields towards the bitterness of the dark chocolate and has a hard time trying to find the sweet side of the dark chocolate and even the milk chocolate. Luckily, the dark fruits help push the flavor into the sweetness. Definitely has a dry and roasty and bitter dark chocolate-like aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a semi-sessionable sort of character to it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good. Finish was dry, roasty and bitter.
Overall, somewhat of an odd duck ranging between an American style and an English one. Possibly I could come back to it.
