A: Pours a near opaque black color. A two finger tan head forms with good retention and plenty of lace.
S: Big resiny hops in the nose. Pine, citrus, even some malts that becomes more noticeable and roasted in the finish.
T: Here, the roast is up front. Bitter coffee, roasted malts, light ash. That mingles with the strong resin, pine, citrus, and bitterness from the hops. Two kinds of clashing bitter flavors, and for me this become unbalanced.
M/O: A full body with moderate carbonation. Resin, sticky, thick, and chewy. While, I think they succeeded in what they wanted to make, its not something I'm going to want to come back to often.
I guess this won't ever by a style I gravitate towards a lot, but I hadn't had one in a long time and wanted to try the style again. I think it is well made for what it is, but just not something I want to come back to. So don't really look at my numbers score, if you are a fan of the style, this is probably exactly what you want. Though the competing and clashing bitterness from both the hops and malt makes this unbalanced for me.
