Extended aging in Four Roses bourbon barrels brings an added depth of flavor to this rich & powerful English style ale. Both beers clock in at 11% ABV with notes of toasted oak, vanilla and caramelized sugar. Locally roasted coffee from our friends at Black Gold Coffee Roasters enhance the treated version.

Palate Contaminants: other beer
Nothing special with the look, Dark brown, slightly clear, not much head or lacing. On to more important things.
Tons of coffee on the nose. Truck stop coffee, not espresso, too. It does have some depth, though, so it hasn't been sitting on the burner for three hours. Maybe a little vanilla in there.
The coffee is strong in the taste, but there are plenty more flavors. It's very smoky, and I'd say that the dark fruit (mostly prunes) are stronger than in the base version. There was more burnt sugar in the base version, and the vanilla and cinnamon are stronger here.
It has a surprisingly mellow feel. Medium weight, and smooth carbonation. Alcohol is fairly well hidden. Barrel and coffee dominate the aftertaste.

On-tap at Calusa Brewing, Sarasota, FL
A: The beer is clear reddish brown in color. It poured with a thin ring of off white bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of oaky vanilla are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional hints of sugary sweetness and coffee.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and slightly sticky on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has nice flavors from the bourbon and hides it’s alcohol very well. The coffee is subtle and doesn’t overpower the beer
Serving type: on-tap
