When your're a brewery and have made five hundred batches of beer, you deserve a dessert. Drinking like a boozy chocolate churro, Calusa's vanilla and cinnamon Imperial Oatmeal Stout is cause for celebration.
Simply named Batch 500, the decadent stout pours luxuriously black while topping off with a mocha creme. Looking the part of coffeehouse drinks, the beer reels in the senses with a soothing but spicy blend of cinnamon latte, vanilla cream, chocolate and coffee. A roasty and nutty edge has the taste leading in with the succulence of toffee, fudge and java milkshake.
As the sweetness takes a slight step back, its the more espresso-driven taste of coffee, roast, nuttiness and spice that play out in true stout form. Cinnamon, kahlua spice, soft vanilla and boozy heat has the ale trending in a Mexican hot chocolate direction. With a late woodsy bitterness coming into play, the creamy roast of the ale has lasting flavors to carry the cinnamon and vanilla.
Full bodied, creamy and off-cloying, the spice and alcohol warmth helps with the balance while the ale trends roasty but never forbids its malt backbone. A long aftertaste of kahlua, churro and horchata collect to give great culinary rewards for those lucky enough to find this stout.
