Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy, lasting head. Smells of roasted, slightly caramelly malt, chocolate and lighter coffee notes, with just a hint of resinous hops. Taste is a good balance of roasted, caramel malt, strong milk chocolate, lighter coffee, just a hint of bitter, resinous, citrus hops and perfect chili heat that lingers on the tongue long after the swallow. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt, chocolate and chili lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.

This is a rather enjoyable Black IPA with some distinct roasted malt, chocolate and chili notes, although the bitter resinous hops seem a little muted, which is probably due to this being one week away from it's best-by date, so between 6-12 months old. While I still enjoyed this, I would have loved to taste it fresh and have adjusted my score slighty upwards to make up for its age.
