Poured from a crowler bought and canned today, on 7/24
On the pour into my mini goblet a surprisingly small head that doesn't quite fully cover the beer forms and dissipates quickly, it is a crowler though so I'm still giving it the benefit of the doubt. The body is a gold to light copper, is crystal clear amd catches the light beautifully.
Aroma is hop forward but mostly aroma hops woth some fruits jumping out from the hop profile just on top of a toasted sweet bready malt character that is then balanced nicely by a drying but subtle, albeit slightly nontraditional yeast character. Very balanced aroma.
Taste follows the aroma nicely with the taste just being more malt forward as opposed to hop forward. Despite the toasty malts the taste is brightened up by the lightly fruity hop character that works nicely with the yeast to balance the sweetness giving a nice dry, crisp, and slightly bitter finish.
Feel is surprisingly light and drinkable, almost to the point of being thin, but the finish is still long with malts sticking around on the palate for a while. The mouth feel left after swallowing is quite dry adding to the perceived thinness. Once again this beer is quite crisp and honestly a good substitute for a pils.
Overall without knowing more about traditional maibocks I'm unsure if this is done to style, but the beer tastes good, clean, amd is refreshing which as far as I can tell are all hallmarks of the style. Tasty but it could be perceived as an amber pilsner.
