You say ‘porter’. we say ‘poorter’. Some say the beer known as ‘porter’ is of dutch origin. ‘Poorter’ was long favoured by hard-working labourers for its hearty and refreshing taste. Our poorter celebrates the haul of exotic botanicals, by poorters from the dockside into Amsterdam warehouses. Climb aboard!
Brewed with liquorice root and vanilla. Robust with sweetness and depth.

Copenhagen 7/5 2018. 33 cl bottle from Brønshøj Vinhandel, Brønshøj Torv, Brønshøj. Some kind of Giant carrying a three-masted Ship on the label. Quite fitting for the style, I suppose.
Pours opaque dark brown with a light tan head. Settles as a thin patchy layer of foam. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is intense and sweet with a bitter twist.Candy-like sweetness mingling with coffee bitterness. The Vanilla mentioned on the label chiming in. Light notes of licorice.
Soft carbonation. Medium thick, creamy texture.
Flavor has pronounced sweetness followed by a weaker bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet vanilla.
A quite light porter with pronounced sweetness which keeps it's promise of vanilla and Licorice without overdoing it.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of slightly roasted, caramel malt and faint, watery notes of chocolate, vanilla and licorice. Taste is a decent balance of slightly roasted and caramelly malt and lighter notes of chocolate, vanilla and licorice. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some vanilla and licorice lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
An all right Porter that seems to live mostly of its additives, while even those fail to make a distinct impression. There's some light roasted, caramel, chocolate malt here, but the vanilla and licorice feels a little artificial and I've honestly had stronger, more natural licorice and vanilla notes in beers without additives, simply from the malts and barrel-aging. At the end of the day this feels like a rather gimmicky beer that tries to make up a lack of depth with additives and while its drinkable enough, it certainly fails to impress. At least there's a fairly nice balance of sweet and bitter, roasted notes going on here though.

From a nice bottle. Neat dark brown look with a thin dark head. A nice coffee/chocolate smell but the (after)taste is a bit underwhelming. Nice beer overall but a bit more robust in the mouth would've been prefered.

L- Very dark ruby-brown, clear, pours with 3mm ultra-fine dark tan head.
S- Dark and toasty with an element akin to some type of stewed fruit.
T- Deep molasses, toasty, major coffee notes. Similar in ways to a bottle of 'The Porter by Anspach & Hobday' I had yesterday but this I prefer as it has balance, and no over-hopped over-bitter finish.
F- Very solid porter, with nothing objectionably out of balance.
O- Ideal for cooler months when you want a winter-warmer to sup on. ABV% is 6.0, but blind tasted I might guess 8-9%, it's that solid! I could easily drink this again.
Bought from Harvey Nichols dept store in London £3./330ml bottle. BB: Oct-2020.
- lable states it's brewed including liquorice root and vanilla.

Bottle @ Bimhuis. Dark brown colour with a stiff tan head. Aroma's: at first strong liquorice and some red fruit. Retronasal there's additionally light sweetness and vanilla. Later on, after warming up, the aroma is much more like cocoa, milk chocolate, vanilla, still some red fruit. Flavour is only mildly sweet though with roasted notes and fair bitterness. Light medium bodied. Finishes with good roast and short but firm bitterness. Not bad.

Dark brown/black colour with a frothy head of cappuccino foam. Smell of liquorice, coffee and malt. The taste has some vanilla, liquorice and chocolate initially, but the beauty is in the finish: an intense dry coffee aftertaste. The brew is quite smooth and the aftertaste sticks nicely to your mouth. There is a downside though: the intensity is mainly there in the beginning. This beer tends to get watery when you get closer to the bottom, which of course has a negative effect on smell, taste and feel, which is a pity, cause the start was great.

Pours dark brownish black into a glass. Tan head is very frothy with large bubbles.
Aroma is rich in vanilla, sweet roast, some booze and some faint botanical and medicinal quality. The flavour is quite roasted with notes of vanilla, liqourice, earth, sweet barley and something akin to mineral water. The flavour isn't as rich as the nose hints at; with more of a diluted feel to it .
Body is light, with minimal carbonation, and a wet finish.
Overall I was expecting something far more rubust and rich than what this porter has provided; maybe I've been spoiled by big American and Norwegian porters and stouts, but this just feels watered down to me.
