#1741 - Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Pours black and not even a photon from a torch at the back of the glass gets through. Pours with a 2mm ultra-fine bubble dark tan head. ps 10mins later, holds very well.
S- Deeply toasty and some coffee notes.
T- Follows directly from the smell. Plus some fireplace cinders, heavy hints of cold log-smoke, big coffee, mega-charring... certainly pungent on the ultra-roast/charring + smoke facet. Some mildly bright hops rise into the finish.
F- Pungent though not rich. It's hoppy aspect builds as I sample on. I'm glad I started this fridge-cold as as it warms it is becoming loud. My wife has just sampled it (completely blind-tasted), she mimiced having spasms and compared it to cold sugar-less straight espresso.
O- Massively roast, deep and super-pungent. Quite blunt however, some edges are unrefined and as it warms you notice them more. Probably needs to be enjoyed alongside a huge roast meal or stew. IDK what the ABV% is but it has no presence, perhaps needs to be say 2.5-3% higher to bring balance of the Feel to the Taste. Not dinging my bells for me tonight...
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! 'Unfiltered, unpasteurised, 6.5%'.
500ml bottle BB: 1/8/2021 £3.40 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
