Pecan Brown Ale

I got a 6pck of this beer from my local meijer store. It poured a clear deep mahogany amber with ecru head that is leaving some nice lace. The scent had subtle sweet dark malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with good malt base and caramel and nut highlights. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

Poured into one of my pint glasses from a 12 oz. can. This beer pours a medium to dark brown color with some deep amber highlights around the edges when held up to the light. Has a slightly tan/off-white head that's over an inch thick when first poured that eventually settles to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass along with some cluster swirls of foam on the beer's surface and decent lacing. Aromas of some toasted malts, chocolate and coffee, and certainly some roasted pecans along with a hint of vanilla and brown sugar. Has a slight earthy hop presence as well to round out the smell here. The flavor profile is of course pretty similar, with toasted malts with some caramel sweetness that give way to nice hints of chocolate, vanilla, roasted pecan, a hint of coffee, and some a bit of earthy hop bitterness. The flavors are all really well balanced and all really compliment each other extremely excellently. Has a somewhat crisp, slightly chewy and stick, smooth and frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with light to moderate carbonation. All the flavors linger nicely in the aftertaste of each sip. Just a really damn great brown ale here!

I totally agree with Richochet, this is the best brown ale I’ve ever tried.
Poured a dark brown with moderate head poured vigorously. No haze as apparent. Minor lacing remains. Aroma of roasted pecans and caramel. Mouthfeel is rich and almost creamy, sweet malty backbone and roasted pecans (think pecan pie) adds layers of flavors.
Solid beer and a great adaptation of the brown ale style.

L: Like a porter or stout, but up to light, brown to red brown. Good head and sticky lace.
S: This is at nut brown as a nut brown gets. Smells like a porter, with nuts. Appetizing.
F: Creamy with a ice cream aftertaste. Pretty much perfect.
T: This is a deep chocolate nut flavor with alcoholic remainder. Brown ales to me seem to have an odd rope-like remainder, this does not. It's thick and a bit sweet and creamy.
O: From the can, this is the best nut brown I've had.

Clear, burnt reddish-brown topped by a creamy tan blanket with soft ridges.

Smell is softly toasty nutty pie, cocoa and coffee.

Taste is sweet, tangy nutty coffee with vanilla, roasted nuts and a sort of smooth toast.

A light, slick body has a mild carbonation, finishing semi-wet.

 

12 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours hazy deep ruby red, light copper/brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big nutty pecans, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, vanilla, and cream; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, pecans, brown sugar, and lactose notes; with great strength. Taste of huge nutty pecans, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, vanilla, and cream; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty pecans, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, vanilla, cream, milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, pecans, brown sugar, and lactose flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal sticky hops, chalky roast, or dryness. Zero warming alcohol for 6.8%. Overall this is an outstanding flavored American brown ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, pecans, brown sugar, and lactose flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the minimally bitter finish. Tastes just like pecan pie. Very rich and well rounded brown ale malt complexity; with perfectly balanced brown sugar, pecans, and lactose. Never overly roasty. Very authentic tasting flavor additions. A highly enjoyable offering. Great style example and dessert style beer.

12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy auburn with some ruby hues; small light khaki head that fades leaving solid retention and okay lacing. The aromas are surprisingly coffee forward, but not dominant. Hints of cocoa and toffee. Lots of malts. The flavors follow the nose. More hints of coffee and toffee leading the way. Some chocolate in the mix. The pecans are there. Some milk and brown sugar. It's not bitter, but it's not sweet although there's definitely some lactose going on. Solid malt backbone. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's smooth and easy to drink.

This a solid brown ale. I wasn't expecting the coffee twist at all. I don't think they used coffee as an ingredient, but I'm undeniably picking it up. It's a traditional example of the style with a slight twist. It's fitting for the winter season. It's probably even better than my "numerical score" might indicate. I like it.
