Appearance – Dark, almost black, and cloudy. The head is thin with medium retention; it forms some lacing on the glass.
Aroma – Coconut is in the foreground. There’s a lighter aroma of chocolate and perhaps some alcohol notes. The aroma isn’t very broad or complex.
Taste – Coconut and chocolate, as described before. There’s also something fruity in the background — maybe plum, raisins, or cherry — but it sits behind the coconut. In the finish/aftertaste, there are noticeable burnt notes, perhaps resembling maple syrup. It’s not bad, but not very complex either. The coconut is not overwhelming, which is worth mentioning.
Mouthfeel – The beer is dense and full-bodied. Bitterness is at a medium level, well balanced with the sweetness. There is some alcoholic warmth, but it’s acceptable.
Overall – Tasty, with a restrained use of coconut. I don’t detect much maple syrup, and it could be more complex. However, it’s worth trying and taking a moment to contemplate.
