We have once again partnered up with Portland’s Holy Donut to bring an imperial stout brewed with COFFEE, VIETNAMESE CINNAMON, VANILLA, and REAL POTATO DONUTS baked right here in Portland. This hearty stout piles on massive flavors of shaved dark chocolate, creamy espresso, powdered cocoa, and smooth vanilla onto a robust body, with a dash of warming cinnamon. HOLY DONUT COFFEE CAKE Imperial Stout is rich and indulgent.

Pours a dark brown color with a foamy head that lasts quite a while. Aroma of sweet vanilla and roasted malts. Taste is cinnamon and black coffee. Finishes sweet; not bitter.

Impressive 16oz offering from Lone Pine, more enjoyable to me than the other straight pastry-style versions I've tried. This pours out of the can very darkly and leaves a mocha-colored head. Coffee abounds, rich and roasty and leading to a definite impression of mocha and vanilla coffee. Mild spices and cinnamon only, the coffee shines and the sweetness never overwhelms. Good stuff.

Pours a frothy creamy thick 1 finger tan head with great retention, great lacing, very dark basically black color, thick
Nose lots of fresh coffee, light roasted fruity and nutty coffee, fair nutty in general, a light roast and dark chocolate, mild baking spices with faint cinnamon, vanilla icing and vanilla-chocolate marble cake, with a bit of sweet dough, sweet Vietnamese like coffee, cinnamon increases as it warms
Taste starts fairly sweet, vanilla icing frosting candy, plenty of donut and cake batter, chocolate donut, more marble cake, fair cinnamon and general baking spices, a bit of roast with lots of coffee, fresh smooth coffee like cold brew, again nutty smooth coffee, a bit fruity, some chocolate candy, some bitterness from roast and mild spicy hop notes, more coffee and cinnamon late, coffee and cream with condensed milk, with more cake batter and vanilla icing, with a bitter roast, hop, and cinnamon clash on the finish
Mouth is med to fuller bod, a bit creamy, high frothy almost distracting carb, a hint of warming alcohol but quite smooth
Overall mixed, it has its moments, but then it has some clashes and not so great parts

Imperial Stout
Lone Pine Brewing
Holy Donut - Coffee Cake
ABV: 9%
Date: Too Smudged to read.
Recently donut beers have been trending. The Bruery collaborated with several donut shops last year to create a limited edition box.
I decided to use a tulip glass for this tasting. The beginning temperature is 46.1 degrees. After the proper pour, a half-finger creamy tan head formed. Dismal retention left no lacing on the glass. Looking at the color, it charted around SRM 30. Rating the appearance, I took deductions for lack of head and no retention.
Before I picked up the glass, I could smell the coffee and cinnamon. Nosing the beer for the first time. I detected bread, roasted malts, sweet molasses, and dry earth. Swirling the glass to smell other aromas. I could barely pick up the vanilla scent. Deductions were made because some aromas were more prevalent than others. The beer did not quite smell like a cinnamon coffee cake or a bold stout.
The temperature raised four degrees before the first sip. The dominant flavors are medium roasted coffee, cinnamon, vanilla, and bready. After a few more samples and swirling on the palate. I notice subtle hints of floral and earthiness with a note of dustiness. I have encountered this dusty flavor in other cinnamon beers. Talking to a few brewers, I have learned that is common with cinnamon beers.
The mouthfeel is somewhat dry. The body is medium-plus, and the carbonation is medium-low. The beer finishes creamy and slightly tannic.
Flavors push the beer to what it says on the label. The aromas took me a few times to notice all the adjuncts. Personally, I would not call this an Imperial Stout. It is a solid pastry stout with donut-like flavors. The beer does make for a great morning starter.

A: Pours a near pitch black color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a decent cap that leaves good lacing
S: Roasted malt, cinnamon, coffee, and some lighter vanilla. Dark chocolate and caramel also present
T: Follows the nose. Starts off with a mix of roasted malt, cinnamon, coffee, and dark chocolate and then picks up some lighter vanilla and caramel. Finishes with lingering cinnamon and coffee
M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation
O: A solid imperial stout with plenty of cinnamon and coffee. Vanilla is there but is more subdued (not a bad thing, it really doesn’t need sweetness). Makes for a nice sipper any time. Worth a drink
