Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours black, appearing opaque black in the glass, with a quarter finger brown head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, light vanilla and cocoa. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt, bourbon, cocoa and a hint of vanilla. Flavor thins out a bit into the finish, revealing more chocolate and a little char that lingers with the bourbon. Medium bodied with light creaminess and sharp carbonation. A nice, lightly charry imperial stout with robust bourbon from the barrels. Good chocolate and barrel vanilla notes. The malt seems a hair thin, leaving a little astringency from the wood and hops in the finish, but overall hits all the notes I want from a barreled stout. Nice introduction to this brewery. The brewery website confirms the idiosyncratic spelling "burboun" for this stout, but oddly, the bottle label says "bourbon"; must be some inside humor.
