16oz can

Pours a finger of white head. Retention is sub-par and the head mostly fades within a minute or so. Lacing is decent. Body is a light gold, crystal clear, with no nucleation. The color of Austrian Marzen’s is significantly lighter than German varietals. Looks ok.

Nose is bread crust, slightly nutty, inviting noble character. Smells nice.

Flavor has more malt than a Pilsner but certainly less than a German Marzen. Mostly bread crust and a light hop character, but no real malliard flavors. It’s clean.

Carbonation is medium-high. Body is relatively light. A small perceived sweetness, but finishes well attenuated. Bitterness is pretty mild. Overall a serviceable mouthfeel.

Drinkability is good.

Overall very underwhelming as a Marzen, but would satisfy as an easy drinking lager.

Clear light golden color with slightly off-white head. Aroma has clean malt and noble hop character. Taste is quite balanced for a märzen, very clean malt, slightly grainy, not toasted or overly sweet. Finish has a light bitterness. Light body, medium carbonation. It’s not really what you would expect from the style but overall it’s a clean and easy drinking lager.

Re-evaluating it 10 years after the first time.
This is a decent marzen, not too sweet, although the first time it seemed a bit overwhelming (but it is not.) Quite hoppy aroma-wise, full but still refreshing and easy to drink. Never thought I would say this but this is a decent marzen. Prost!

I happened to buy a bottle that was skunked so I need to take this into account. It pours golden with a decent amount of foam (not much retention). The smell was of pure skunk for the first few seconds. Some malts came through. Very little in the terms of hops. Fairly sweet and with a light body. Not something I'd get out of my way to purchase again.
