a base style i usually dont get too excited about, but this is very good. they brew it with a local coffee which has some bitterness and even a little acidity, which helps cut the inherent sweetness of the malt, and the beer has nice balance and completeness, lots of coffee, tons of flavor, and its well made. the lagering part, the patience, the intangibles, seem just okay, like the quality is in the low B range, but the recipe is a banger and the beer is nice overall, but owing a lot to the java. its deep orange in looks, short khaki headed, and with a nice aroma of roasted coffee, burning toast, and caramel, not overly rich, but some of that standing against the coffee. the fermentation could be a little more tidy, and i could take more coffee in this, even though i can fully enjoy it now, more wouldnt make this worse. a drinker, a needed modernization of a style i rarely choose, and a well made beer overall. these guys seem to have found a nice mix of tradition and innovation, and i liked all i had while i was in. cool use of what seems like a coffee i need to check out while i am in town! im happy this exists.
