Yet again, the almighty bArF returns to drop a first ever review of a beer on this Next Glass owned website. Its also one of those double digit abv beers that is made in Utah, thereby destroying the narrative for 90+% of the people out there that said things don't exist or are "illegal".
Pours black, light beige head in the 1/4" range. There is mostly a sweeter whiskey smell to the aroma, but the roast and baltic porter yeast is noticeable. Smells pretty similar to a barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout.
Taste brings some influence from opposite directions, roasted malt versus 7 months of sweet whiskey barrel aging versus baltic porter yeast influence. It got some heat and bitterness to it. Also a nuanced degree of smoke to it. At my advanced age, this is definitely a beer for sharing and sipping. Not bringing a 4 pack of this to the river to crush. The astringency seems to win out at the end of the day though. Good in small doses, but also challenging.
