Sampled on a ski vacation in Austria, this one came in a standard brown half liter bottle with a white, black and red label featuring a monk holding a covered mug, along with a list of medals and the slogan "Ripened in cool cliffs." Cool. No ingredient or best before info on the label.
Pours clear gold under a big three finger white head that is very sticky, with lots of holes. The head dissipates quickly, but leaves lots and lots of lace. There is a sweet, fruity bouquet in the nose, with a tinge of hops. The mouth is light and prickly. The opening taste is fruity, almost raspberry sweet. The label promises spicey, and the beer delivers, with touches of coriander and perhaps cinnamon. There's a touch of hops bitterness backing up all the activity, but not enough to be dry or to outlast the sweet malt in the aftertaste. This is a good drinking beer.
