This “sessionable” Russian Imperial Stout produces big flavours while offering a low abv for the style. The aroma of brown sugar and dried fruit combined with bourbon and oak create levels of complexity that delight the senses

Opaque dark brown color. Poured a tall head that was itself a dark tan. The head took several minutes to evolve to larger bubbles and then a thin skiff. Too dark to see the carbonation level. Left lacing everywhere the head touched.
The main scent was barnyard adjacent, but it quickly dissipated leaving a sweet coffee and cola (dried fruit?) with mild dark roasted malt. Some strong pipe tobacco is really noticeable just before taking a mouthful. Swirling the glass refreshed the barnyard and added in some minty fresh smell; almost like a bit of toothpaste.
For a brief moment there was no flavor at all (probably a bit too cold), then it was quickly sweet while a dark roasted and bitter malt builds up stronger and more bitter with each passing second. Slight yeast funk as it warms further. Just a hint of alcohol flavor. Listed as IBU 40. The aftertaste is an abrupt loss of sweetness, but the rest of the flavors slowly ramp down.
Quickly builds to a creamy foam and then slightly past that. A bit astringent with the aftertaste.
Sessionable? OK, this is on the lower end of the ABV and IBU scales for RIS, but I don't think too many people would be ordering multiple pints of this. Rather complex set of flavors that would fit into a smoke filled back room with a high stakes poker game going on. The flavor can be a bit overwhelming.
