On-tap at the source, this tripel gets a boost of coffee, mocha, coconut, and macadamia nuts. On to the beer:
This dark gold colored beer veers into metallic orange and is topped with a half-inch of head on top. The aroma is played very well. I didn't think that tripel and a Hawaiian blend could work, but at least with the aroma, it does. Light apricot and sugar play along with the coffee and coconut that sends chills down my spine. It smells sweet, roasty, and that yeast is spicy.
The base tripel tastes really pleasing, and I almost wished that I tasted the tripel on its own. Mandarin orange, apricot, toasted sugar, and spicy fennel make a great base and start to the beer. With the additions of coconut, mocha, and coffee, the taste goes from very good to crazy good. It is incredibly weaved well together, and as a bonus, that 9.5% ABV is hidden deceptively. Its body is medium, creamy, and low carbonated.
Playing with a tripel can be a dangerous game. However, Relentless Brewing got this remix right on the bullseye. This is an absolute must try.
