A stout made with Beets, Hazelnuts, Chocolate, and Vanilla.
I read that off the can just now, but initially I was a little concerned with the weird redness of this stout. But, yeah, there's definitely beets in there. The body is thick and it's surprisingly fizzy considering the ABV. It looked fruited, which... I think beets are a vegetable and not a fruit but, understandably, this makes me expect a level of tartness which is not present in the aroma or flavor.
Aroma is shockingly smooth: milk chocolate, hazelnuts, a little kiss of booze. It's intense but fairly straightforward, but what's there is very good.
The flavor is good, but not as well rounded as the aroma. Sweet up front, with enough beet nodes to notice them, moving into a middle that's a bit garbled, with the beer being unsure if it wants to be a nutty sweet stout or a bittersour imperial stout. The finish, like some other Peabody Heights beers that I've had, is uneven to the point of almost spoiling the beer, where it feels like three separate layers of flavor are stacked physically atop one another rather than combining into anything remotely definitive. Thankfully, the aroma and front end are enough to see this one through.
