Brewed in collaboration with Buxton Brewery.
Dark beers from Buxton have sustained us through many a winter so it was an obvious style to collaborate on when we invited them to brew. This beer was brewed with a whole host of dark malts, a touch of muscavado and golden syrup, and is a real winter warmer. Pairs perfectly with a roaring fire and the last of the Christmas chocolates.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, frothy, mocha-colored head, Smells of roasted, smoked, caramel malt and lighter notes of chocolate and brown sugar, with just a hint of coffee and licorice coming through as well. Taste follows the nose, being a good balance between roasted, smoked, caramel malt and lighter brown sugar, chocolate and herbal hops notes, as well as just a hint of coffee and licorice. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some roasted/smoked malts, brown sugar and chocolate lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
A perfectly nice smoked stout that could perhaps be a little more smokey and less sweet for my personal taste, but still delivers on its premise with some smokey, almost peaty, notes backed up by lighter chocolate, coffee and licorice, while also balacing out that certain sweetness with a good bitterness and roasted, herbal undertones.
