"Heller Wahnsinn"
Swingtop bottle purchased at Craft Beer Store in Hamburg in Spring 2016.
Explosive carbonation wave upon opening. No beer gushes out, but damn that's a loud pop.
A: Head occupies ~90% of the glass, indicating potential overcarbonation. It's your usual off-white head with average characteristics, though it's a bit heftier and more robust than I'd expect of a helles lager. Sticks around for a good ~8+ minutes, leaving no lacing as it recedes.
Body is a translucent transparent copper of average vibrance. I see no yeast within.
Darker than most helles lagers, but generally appealing.
Sm: Hints of caramel. CaraMunich malt is prominent. Minimal hop presence - a bit floral, a bit herbal.
Suggests a simple drinkable lager with adequate body.
Aromatic intensity is below average.
T: CaraMunich malts. Amber malts. Balanced, albeit simple. "Darker" in flavour than most helles lagers. Quite plain and shallow, but enjoyable.
Mf: Smooth and wet. Not unrefreshing. Well-carbonated. Medium-bodied (though you'd expect a helles lager to be light-bodied). Not scratchy, rough, gushed, hot, or boozy.
Suits the taste decently. There's no harmony of texture and taste.
O: A drinkable enjoyable helles lager, but not a paragon of the style. I'll enjoy finishing the bottle, but it's not excellent and I wouldn't buy it again. Darker in malts than most examples of the style.
