*Bottle was about a year old at time of drinking.
Pours seal brown with a modest cap of fine, mocha foam. Gorgeous aroma smells richly of figs, plums, dates, and currants, along with notes of molasses and brown sugar.
The taste features molasses and earthy, peppery hops up front. There's some prune juice and suggestions of other dark fruit beneath the surface, but it's pretty well buried (no pun intended!) beneath the hops and molasses. Any oak character is nigh invisible. Mild carbonation and medium-heavy body make for a smooth, sticky, slightly oily mouthfeel.
Overall, this is a flavorful stout with a great bouquet, but it's too hop-forward for my tastes.
