Newly tapped at the beginning of October 2006, Amarillo comes out a cloudy true gold under an off-white one finger head with good retention and nice lace rings. The nose features very mild grain and spice - quite subdued actually. The mouth is well-carbonated with a medium body. There's not much in the way of malt here - it's present but very shy and retiring. The hops are more insistent, although not overpowering. Achingly dry espresso bitter throughout, urging further sips by simultanously satisfying and regenerating the thrist. A solid if unadventurous brew, it is a bit of a surprise in the central European context, but quite to be expected from the relatively hop-crazy brewers at 1516.
