Another fine release from Vienna's best brewery. Made with Saaz hops along with two local varieties, the beer comes out a vaguely cloudy yellow gold under a one finger white head with a bit of contour and a quite creamy texture, lasting a good long time. There are a few lace strings, but not as much as could be hoped. The nose is a bit mild, with just a hint of sweet malt and a touch of - gosh - what seems like whiskey. Interesting. The mouth is well carbonated and slightly sticky, a touch thicker than normal for the style. A nice crisp hoppy bitter complements the sweet grain from the start, then takes over completely.
Advertised as a North German pilsner, it isn't as bitter as Jever, but definitely gets your attention with the hops content. Excellent as a summer quaffer, it both quenches thirst and inspires to further drafts. Wonderful variation on the style.
