Brauerei Braunschweig “Von Raven Pilsner”
500ml can coded “Mindestens haltbar bis: 12.05.22. 05 F31 41”. Sampled on 04.10.2021.
€1,19 @ an Esso station, Schönefeld, DE
Notes via stream of consciousness: Von Raven pours a clear gold body beneath a full head of fluffy white foam. It seems to be holding pretty well so far but we’ll see. The aroma is limited to grainy malt with a hint of herbal hops, which is not surprising as it’s brewed with hop extract and no actual hops. The flavor follows, and although it’s quite bitter the malt just isn’t quite full enough to balance it thoroughly. It finishes dry and bitter, not that that’s a bad thing for a Pilsner, but it’s a bit much given the lack of maltiness. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and crisp. So, what to really say about this? It’s just another crappy Euro Pils, even if it is brewed in Germany. It’s a price-point beer and you can tell.

From the can, it pours a clear light yellow golden color with a large, thick, white head. The head lasts and does leave a bit of lace as you enjoy the beer. In the nose, it is light and bready. In the mouth, it is a decent pilsner bitter.
