Need a dark beer that's not heavy, that you can drink year around? Enter Mr. Stevens. This diminutive beer clocks in at a low 3.8% ABV, but you’d never know it from the flavor. Made exclusively from hand-malted British specialty malts and a special English yeast strain, Mr. Stevens provides a complexity and depth of flavor that you never thought possible in a lower alcohol beer. Bonus points if you can tell us the story behind the name!

Medium light carbonation with about a medium body.
Aroma is malt, roasted malt, coffee licorice, and molasses.
Taste isn't as complex as aroma but still a very flavorful beer. Has a sour almost tart finish that lingers.

English Mild Porter is a great flavorful session or blending beer. Goes a long way. well done.
#7 review. 1st from NJ Brewer.
a) Jet black, small head, dotty lace at best, opaque.
s) Delicious roast and toast, coffee, with ample yeast, malt, hop background.
t) Follows the coffee and smoke aroma with big flavor for4.2% beer ( nice alt to Guinness - wonder what the calorie count is? Guiness < Amstel)
f) Thinnish, but suitable char and bite to be a masculine mixer or standalone.
o) Sum greater than it's parts, Original, Underdog!

Rich mahogany. It's actually quite clear although their is evidence to it being unfiltered?...a few particles in suspension. Mild malt aroma, mild cherry sweetness, spent coffee grinds, Khaki head that dissipate quickly. Light bodied. Pretty smooth feel except for a slight roast astringency. Med-low carb. Malt centric flavor, chocolate and light coffee mostly. Tiny hazelnut presence and earthy spice cachet. Blend of blueberry and underripe spring fruit balances the sweeter tasting malts nicely. Very easy to drink. Really exemplary for style, and would get higher marks if I rated purely 'true' to style.

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) can into a Captain Lawrence, muffin top pint; canned January 8, 2020, code I'M JEFF VADER.
A: Pours an almost black hue with mahogany highlights, a no more than one finger, khaki head leaving rim retention and limited lacing.
S: Aromas of medium roast, black coffee, dark, cola, and honey.
T: More semisweet, than semidry. Flavors mirror the nose, certainly the coffee and cola elements. Star anise and green pepper notes blend into a moderate background bitterness that lingers surprisingly strongly on the palate.
M: Light to medium bodied, but low carbonation. Powdery.
O: Described as a Session Porter on the can, which I can definitely see. This would actually be fairly crushable, not always a great idea with a Porter. Drinkable and enjoyable.

A: The beer is nearly jet black in color - only traces of dark brownish red are visible near the corner of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a quarter finger high light tan head that left some wisps of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of chocolatey malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is very chocolatey with hints of pale malts and a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I wouldn't have expected a beer that is only 4.2% abv to be this flavorful and approaching the amount of flavors that you would expect in a porter or a stout.
Serving type: can

While in England nearly 30 years ago, I was making the short journey by bus from Manchester to Stockport to watch a Stockport County soccer match, when we stopped at a pub. There, I drank an English Mild for the first time. I enjoyed it immensely, but could never repeat the experience in either the UK or the USA. That is until I tried a full pour of Mr. Stevens at The Alementary Brewing Co. Never before has a beer with such a low ABV (3.5%) made such a great impression. An inviting dark color paved the way to a tasty, almost spicy, flavor. A robust mouthfeel was the highlight. Long may the English Mild thrive!

Short pour on nitro at the brewery.
Very dark brown and opaque when the glass is full; you get a better look at how clear it is as you get towards the end of the beer. Creamy tan head, thanks to the nitro pour. Nice chocolate and black tea notes in the aroma. Malty, chocolatey, and earthy flavor. Pretty smooth, as a Mild should be. Finishes slightly sweet with medium-light body.
Always really happy to see an English Mild on-tap, especially one without any additions to it. Would like to try this on CO2 instead of nitro next time, but not many complaints here. Hope this one sticks around at the brewery for a while, or even sees cans, because it's a really solid beer.

Had on nitro in 12 oz pour. Pours dark brown with a thin white head that lasts. Not much aroma to speak of maybe a little toffee. Taste is malty spicy. Feel is very smooth on nitro. Overall a very nice English Mild.

A nice beer with a dark black color with a nice malty spice flavor and feel. Having on nitro is a definite plus. A perfect lunch time beer or during a hot day.
