Appearance:  Such a deep, dark drown that it appears black like motor oil. A half-centimeter of khaki colored foam that quickly dissipated to a thick ring only.

Aroma:  Roast, coffee, chocolate syrup, milk chocolate, alcohol, coconut.

Taste:  Bitter chocolate, lactose, vanilla, less coffee than what was on the nose but the bitterness is still there. Alcohol. The advertised coconut seems mostly absent to taste.

Feel:  Thick, syrupy, creamy. Light carbonation.

Overall:   Great complexity and well balanced. Smells and tastes good while cold but gets better as it warms. Well done!

6 April 2020 - Beer #68

Corona Day #25

2 more beers until Passover!

Price: $6.00 at the brewery

Appearance: 4 - very black, but the head disappeared immediately like soda.

Nose: 4 - no coffee but a surprising amount of coconut.

Taste: 3 - VERY mild flavor. It's super effervescent and bubbly, which detracts from the flavor. Like drinking a chocolate, coconut soda.

Mouth: 3 - again with the bubbly effervescence.

Overall: 3 - this was just a strange beer-drinking experience all around.

Cheers!

Aroma: Fresh coconut and dairy creamer. Just a hint of coffee is present, and only as it warmed.
Taste: Tasted malt with chewy oatmeal flavors. Some sugary cream and coconut sweetness is present.
Mouthfeel: Creamy as is expected for a milk stout. Not particularly thick, this is a nice dessert beer.
Overall: I think the added flavors pair well, and make this a tasty big brother of their "porter-rico" beer.

Blackish body with a relatively thin, fizzy, light tan head. Heavy grain char aroma intermixed with some dark roast coffee; bitter chocolate. Milk chocolate and vanilla flavors dominate the taste; coffee bitterness. Heavy body yet still feels a bit weak for the style; nice residual sugar presence; sweet overall with just a touch of alcohol heat.

This beer brings some nice richness and depth to the palate, coating your tongue with a nearly decadent, alluring sweetness. The coffee presence is most prominent in the aroma but does add some nice bitterness twists to the flavor. Nicely done.

Pours a vinous dark brown color that looks black in the glass. A late rising foam head dissipates nearly as quickly; expected for the high ABV. Elegant looking drink.

The aroma displays sweet and roasty notes of espresso beans and cocoa/chocolate powder. The
coconut adds a nice touch, and is well supported by nutty malts and lactose.

Sweet and complex taste that is neither cloying nor boozy. The mouth feel is smooth and creamy, aided by the addition of lactose, while the carbonation is gentle. Full bodied and mouth coating with flavors of coconut, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, dark fruit, cherry and mouth coating. Not particularly bitter, however, there is a nice balancing touch of roasted malts, grassy and minty hops, and a mild alcohol spice that is surprisingly well hidden. A long and sweet finish yields a slightly sticky linger.

I’m beginning to dig this brewery! I’ve recently been seeing them around a lot; are they new? They did a good job with this dangerously drinkable imperial stout.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of coffee beans and chocolate are present in the nose along with notes of coconuts.
T: The taste is quite chocolatey and has notes of coconut, coffee bean, and lactose flavors.
M: It feels medium-bodied and rather smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite interesting as it has the lightness and smoothness you would expect from an oatmeal stout, the lactose you would expect from a milk stout, and the flavors and body you would expect from an imperial stout. It is deceptively drinkable and does a very good job at masking any traces of alcohol from the taste.
