Just south of Grand Rapids MI. The place has a bit of the Oktoberfest flavor in a salute to the small town in Germany where the owner was station in the 60's. The beers we tried were to style of the German beers. Owner had a lot to say about the industry. Our order of fries were tasty.

This brewery has been open for a year or so, and it was finally time to get it on the itinerary for a visit. The pub is located in a strip mall along a busy street in an area of other commercial businesses. The interior some German-style decorations including a large wall mural, presumably of the German city for which this brewery is named. There is an L-shaped bar that seats about a dozen people, and about a dozen or so small tables with chairs. A couple TV were hanging on the walls, and a dart-throwing area was partitioned off in the adjacent room.
We ordered a sampler flight of 6 of the 12 beers that were on tap that day. Only 3 of these beers were German styles (a Roggenbier, a Hefeweizen, and a Schwartz bier), which was a disappointment because we were looking to expand our experience in tasting German styles. A Bock and a Pils were listed on the board as upcoming, so the timing of our visit was just a bit too soon. We chose the three Germans plus an Irish Red, a Scottish Ale, and an American IPA. Each beer was brewed to style, but we felt that a couple of them were just average (the Roggenbier and the Scottish Ale). The two notable beers were the Hefeweizen and the IPA. Overall we scored the beers at a B-minus grade.
There is a food menu regardless that the BA category for this place does not include an Eatery classification (an Update has been sent to BA to add Eatery). The selections include some German-inspired sandwiches plus a couple entree items (also German) and the ever ubiquitous hamburger. (A menu is on their website.) We had two of the appetizers which were good. There were 6 wines and one cider offered for the non-beer lover.
This is a place that is worthy of a visit, but I hope more German-style beers that are brewed a notch or two better will show up soon.
