This Black Gose is a not so traditional take on a beer that has been brewed for over a thousand years. Hailing from Goslar Germany, Gose by nature is tart with a touch of salinity. Our take includes a fair amount of black malts, smoked English sea salt and a hint of orange blossom, contributing floral aromas with a nice roasty finish. One sip will leave you wanting to kiss Molly's Lips.

According to the style, a Gose should be straw colored, not black. However, clearly, the brewer's intent is that this beer be black, which it is. There is no head and no lace. Highlights are very dark brown in a Stiegl stange.
The aroma contains coffee and lime, as well as the expected brine. Generally, one would consider these all to be soft and subtle.
By the flavor, this is definitely a Gose. The innovation is commendable. There is a light, funky brine with a lime theme. Perhaps there is coffee. Perhaps that is an illusion. The finish is light, then builds and holds ground. Warmth detracts from this beer, allowing bitterness to build.
The body is very light with a watery texture and no trace of alcohol. Carbonation is light and the finish is dry.
This is a pleasant beer, meeting my expectations of the style, color excepted. It is a refreshing Summer beer and I appreciated the innovation.

Finger of dark brown foam, tight weave and even surface, somehow though retention is not that great, lacing forms long, stringy strands. Pure black liquid, not even a hint of color around the edges, very difficult to see any bubbles within. Smoky nose that evokes campfire wood, roasted coffee and burnt caramel, the orange blossom comes through but not so gently, has a sourness to it, maybe a hint of cherry but not a lot of fruity scents but has a vinous aspect, lasts well but not that complex. Medium-bodied, sour and tart with lemon and orange citrus upfront as well as retronasally. Again, the roast is overpowering with mocha, coffee bean and close to grill smoke nuances. Underneath it all are light doughy and minerally notes as well as saline. No fruit to be found here either. Dry finish, the saltiness pronounced and coats the lips. Carbonation is very soft. The more you sip the heavier it feels, however, not bad in terms of extended drinkability. Two cans in a sitting would be the max. A valiant effort with its reach exceeding its grasp.

the beer here is awesome and inventive, and i think that is well illustrated by this one, which appears to be one of their more popular brews. its a black gose with orange blossom, super unique with the dark roasty bitter malts juxtaposed to the delicate springy orange blossom. not a ton of head on it from the tap at the brewery, but a nice deep color and a clean bacterial soutness obvious in the nose. they must use a smoked salt or a pinch of smoked malt, as i get a light campfire element to this, subtle but a cool feature with the roastiness of the dark grain. even with the color the body stays light and this doesnt drink heavy, cut by the acidity, still summery with the floral character too. its not too salty, but there is a light almost olive sort of brine to this. high carbon charred sort of character, piquant all the way through, and definitely unique in a style that has all the beers sort of trending the same way. well made stuff, these guys are doing some really fun beers and we all enjoyed this one a lot! black gose makes a lot of sense, i wish more folks were making these...

Opaque, dark brown beer with a big tan head that fades in about 30 seconds. Leaves no lacing. The aroma is strange. It is like tart, salty, Swedish licorice. The taste is tart with a lot of floral flavors. Like a slightly tangy honey. It is a pretty decent beer but I'm not sure it is a gose to me.
