one of the weirdest things i have ever seen in beer, apparently whole pizzas, and a fair few of them, were steeped in the boil of this, what the heck?! its a pale ale base, a necessarily simple beer to allow some of what the pizza has to offer to come through. i really do get some pizza to this, and i definitely let myself, but like, charred crust and semolina come to mind right away, in with the grains, simple but sort of more rustic than the barley would be on its own. the most prominent pizza element to me here is the basil, fresh and green, they must have used margarita pizza with some fresh basil on it, nice with the hops, summery and herbaceous. some light acidity from the tomato maybe, no grease or anything from oil or cheese, its more like subtle overall pizza essence in a simple pale ale. weird to say the least, especially when i consider the process, but its also fully agreeable and hard not to like. i think its very good, really, and i could have several of them. better than a gimmick honestly. some weird beers happening in here, but they somehow pulled this off!
