Ive drank the Stiftsbrau many times since moving to a small town 20 minutes from the brewery eight months ago. I believe the previous reviewer may have made a mistake when he classified this as a dunkel weizen. Its not. It has no properties of a weizen what so ever.
Head is fluffy and of an off white color. Color is murky and resembles molasses. Put up against light, hues comparable to root beer come through. Aroma is sweet and simple. Flavor is of sweet malts without a hint of bitterness. Alcohol is light and not noticeable. Despite its darker color and sweeter flavors, the beer is fairly light in the stomach.
Ive noticed that many recipes for Pork and other meats, call for a bottle of dark beer. Several friends and friends girlfriends prefer Gössers Stiftsbrau because of its sweeter than normal taste.
