Canned: Jun-26-2019 (Consumed Jul-30)
A:
It pours fairly clear, a dark reddish brown with a very short-lived half-finger of aida head. No retention; no lacing. (3.25)
S:
Really prevalent caramel sweetness, dark fruits, the faintest tart whiff. (3.75)
T:
Rich and sweet malt flavors. Bready, caramely, herbal hop bite, dark fruits. (4)
M:
Rich, sweet, verges on sticky, soft carbonation and a malty-sweet finish. (3.5)
O:
A decent red as far as it goes.
It is pretty heavy on the residual sweetness which (contrary to what you'd think since they're usually very dry) comes across to me as smelling a little Belgian. Thick, caramel-laden malt layers with a darkfruity character that also nudges it towards my mind telling me it's Belgian. It is neither a spectacular nor a terrible beer. It could definitely be fit from being a little dryer and a little less cloying. (3.5)
